Today, Eileen Fisher is leading the charge on sustainable fashion and industry accountability. Their VISION2020 initiative is a sustainable manifesto, which pledges that all cotton and linen will be organic by 2020. They have also used it to implement programs and training throughout key suppliers in China, Peru and India, safeguarding the wages and welfare of those who create their products.
They are opening the doors of their King’s Road store on Saturday 14 September, for an evening of drinks and educational talks, explaining the ethos behind their new Waste No More movement.
The zero-waste initiative brings together creativity and innovation and is just one part of the store’s vision for more sustainable practises throughout the production process.
The brand’s take-back initiative has seen them re-acquire over one million pre-loved pieces since 2009, offering £5 vouchers in exchange for customer’s landfill-destined items. Pieces still in perfect condition are given a good-as-new cleaning and resold through the Renew program. Those in need of a little more love are transformed into one-of-a-kind artworks, pillows and wall hangings using a custom felting method.
Eileen Fisher ‘see possibility where others see waste’ and it is their mission to spread this sort of thinking throughout the industry – educating both consumers and retailers on better practices.
